Sandra Ballester BAS DpAT | Registered Autogenic Therapist | Norwich | Norfolk | UK

Since the mid 1980s I have worked with people in supportive and counselling contexts. My background experience includes psychiatric nursing, counselling and training for the unemployed, and voluntary assistance for MIND charity. I have also trained in Chinese philosophy and medicine (for my own interest, not to practise) and have a good working knowledge of most branches of holistic medicine. I was clinic co-ordinator at a busy complementary healthcare centre for four years and guided hundreds of people towards the best holistic care for their individual needs.

I first learned the Autogenic Technique for myself in 1999. I had several stress-related illnesses at the time, which cleared up completely within a few months of regular practice. This inspired me to want to teach the technique, so I joined the Diploma course at the British Autogenic Society the following year. I qualified in 2002 and have been teaching the Autogenic Technique since then. I am professionally insured and am a full member of the British Autogenic Society.

My clients range from businessmen and women, teachers, doctors, lawyers, bricklayers and students, to athletes, artists, convalescents, the disabled, housewives, teenagers and older children. We each have our own unique problems and the causes of stress vary greatly, but we all respond to stress remarkably similarly. I have also taught clients who are suffering from psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, manic-depression and conversion disorder, usually under GP supervision.

My approach is that the most effective holistic medicine uses a combination of conventional medical care (if necessary) and alternative therapies. I fully support any treatment that my clients may be receiving from their GP or hospital, as well as any alternative therapies that my clients wish to use. I have seen for myself how the Autogenic Technique helps the body to make the most of medical care and increase the efficiency of every kind of treatment. I support the choices that my clients make regarding their own health.

I have worked in groups and with individual therapists on my own personal growth for the whole of my adult life, and have regular supervision. I value spirituality in its varying expressions and have friendships with many people of different faiths and none. The Autogenic Technique is something I practise for myself every day.
